First United Church of Christ is seeking a dependable, organized, and service-oriented Administrative Assistant to support the Pastor and the ongoing administrative needs of the church. This position serves as an important point of contact for members, visitors, volunteers, and church leadership and requires professionalism, discretion, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
Position is 3 days per week, 7 hours per day. Working days are Monday or Tuesday (as agreed upon) and Thursday and Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Pastor to provide administrative and organizational support.
- Prepare the weekly worship bulletin and assist with other worship-related administrative needs.
- Assist with the preparation and organization of the Church Annual Report.
- Send reminder emails and communications to church volunteers.
- Prepare and send thank-you notes, homebound mailers, and other church correspondence.
- Maintain accurate church files and records.
- Maintain and update the church Master Calendar.
- Provide administrative assistance to Church Boards and Teams as requested.
- Serve as a welcoming receptionist for church members, visitors, and guests.
- Answer phone calls professionally, direct calls appropriately or take messages.
- Perform additional administrative duties as needed to support the effective operation of the church.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some business-related college coursework is preferred.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality regarding church-related matters.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a welcoming, professional manner.
- Working knowledge of computers and willingness to stay current with evolving technology.
- Experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, or similar programs and willingness to stay current with evolving technology.
- Familiarity with Church Windows software or the ability and willingness to learn.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work cooperatively with the Pastor, church staff, volunteers, Boards, Teams, members, and visitors.
- Demonstrated reliability, discretion, flexibility, and a commitment to serving the church community.
