Walnut Creek Presbyterian ChurchPosition DescriptionSummer Ministry InternOverviewThe Summer Ministry Intern position affords high school graduates who are potentially sensing a call to a future in ministry the opportunity to experience firsthand what it is like to work in a church environment. Under the supervision of the Pastoral Residents, interns will get the opportunity to learn from and work alongside leaders of multiple different departments to gain a comprehensive understanding of how a healthy church is run. This role advances WCPCs mission to be a church that equips saints for the work of ministry (Eph. 4:11-13).
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Support- Assist ministry directors with departmental projects, including scheduling, coordination, and organization of activities
- Support tracking of project timelines to help ensure departmental work remains on schedule and operational
- Take ownership of assigned tasks and follow through to completion with guidance from supervisors
Team Collaboration & Learning- Participate in general ministry and department-specific meetings, contributing as appropriate
- Observe and learn departmental functions, workflows, and operational needs
- Collaborate with team members and direct reports to support ongoing projects and team objectives
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality to support team effectiveness
Training & Development- Complete required training to build knowledge and skills relevant to assigned responsibilities
- Apply learned concepts to support day-to-day tasks and departmental initiatives
- Actively receive, reflect on, and incorporate feedback from supervisors and team members
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as ministry or organizational needs develop.

- No previous ministry experience necessary
- High school graduate (or equivalent)
- Strong interpersonal skills and an eagerness to learn
- Works well both on a team and on their own
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Current enrollment or completion of college or trade school
- One year of church volunteer experience
- Previous leadership experience (either at school or work)
- Familiarity with Planning Center
Works with: Outreach Ministry, Tech Team, Worship Arts Ministry, Operations Department, Childrens Ministry, Youth Ministry
Attends: All-Staff Check-Ins, weekly Tactical and Worship Arts meetings, Midweek Worship Services, Sunday Services, and any other all-staff events that may arise
Supervises: No direct reports
Reports to: Pastoral Residents (Liang Ma and Jeremy Howard)
Hours: Part-time (24 hours/week, including Sundays)
Schedule:
Tuesdays: Key team meetings (Check-In, Tactical, Worship Arts)
Wednesdays: Midweek Worship Service
Sundays: Sunday 8:30 - 12 (required)
The rest of the weekly schedule will vary based on department needs, but we aim to keep hours as consistent as possible. Some weeks may include evenings.
Fridays and Saturdays are typically days off.
