The Church Secretary plays a crucial role in supporting the operations of the church office. Reporting to the Pastor, this part-time position (15-20 hours per week) ensures smooth administrative functioning through effective calendar management, communication, and record keeping. The role involves limited interaction with church members and visitors, focusing primarily on administrative support using church management software, general office tools and coordinating with church leadership. Willing to train the right candidate.
Starting pay $17/hr. Ability to potentially increase to $19/hr after 90 days.
Responsibilities
· Manage church calendar and schedule appointments
· Handle correspondence including emails, phone calls, and sort mail for the Pastor and Church Council
· Maintain accurate records and update church databases, coordinating with the Pastor and Elders
· Prepare weekly bulletin and screens for worship in coordination with and as directed by the Pastor
· Maintain schedule for special services such as baptisms, weddings and funerals
· Provide weekly list of first-time visitors to the Pastor and Board of Outreach
· Provide monthly list of membership changes and a bi-weekly list of absent members to the Elders
· Provide letters of transfer as directed
· Produce and maintain annual church directory
· Oversee office supply inventory and order as needed
· Ensure office equipment is clean and well-maintained
· Prepare documents and support meeting logistics
· Prepare monthly newsletter
· Utilize church management software and Microsoft Office Suite
· Maintain website and social media
· Other general clerical and support tasks as assigned by the Pastor
Preferred Qualifications
· Prior experience in a church office environment a plus but not required
· Ability to learn new software programs
· Minimum High school diploma or equivalent
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data entry helpful
· Strong time management and multitasking abilities
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Organizational skills and ability to maintain confidentiality
